President's Day!

Today is President's Day, a day in which we honor the legacy of Presidents past and present who have led and served our nation.  More specifically, we celebrate the birthdays of George Washington, Our National Hero and first President; and Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President; who led this nation through the Civil War, preserved the union and ended slavery.  We are thankful for the men who have been elected and dutifully served the people of this nation and its territories.  It is important that on this President's Day, that we take time to honor and cherish our current President, Barack H. Obama.

Whether you agree with his policies or not, he is still the leader of this nation and representative of the American people.  It is not easy to be in his position.  To be everything for everyone definitely comes with a hefty price.  Sometimes we forget that politicians are people too.  They have struggles, issues and concerns just as we do.  With that said, it is imperative that we recognize that it is incumbent upon "we the people," to pray that President Obama will be guided in righteousness with a spirit of wisdom, discernment and humility as well as divine protection for his family, and peace domestically and abroad.

The following prayer comes from the Book of Common Prayer.  Let us go boldly before the throne of grace.

For the President of the United States and all in Civil
Authority

O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We
commend this nation to thy merciful care, that, being guided
by thy Providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant
to the President of the United States, Barack H. Obama,
the Governor of the State of North Carolina, Beverly Eaves Purdue,
and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do
thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness,
and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this
people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee and the
Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Peace,
Karsten
