We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I think that the “Twelve Days of Christmas” is hands down the longest Christmas song out there. But as we walk into a new year and continue our Christmas journey, let us be mindful that God has been good to us. “On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me eight maids a milking.” The eight maids a milking represent the beatitudes, which can be found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke.
Jesus preached and shared the beatitudes on the sermon on the Mount. Each beatitude has two phrases: the condition and the result. The beatitudes echo and emphasize the ideals of Christ’s teachings on mercy, spirituality and compassion. By definition, the word beatitude means state of bliss, happiness or being blessed. Simply put, I think that the beatitudes sum up how our attitudes ought to always be.
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
As we go into 2012, let’s check our attitudes and remember these words from Jesus’ sermon on the mount.
Peace and Christmastide Blessings!

You are welcome TD. You know that I said that I was going to write a book in 2011. Hmmm, 2012 is not looking too promising. Keep me lifted in prayer.
