With Thanksgiving a little over a week away, it has dawned on me how thankful I truly am. From last year to this moment, God has continued to prove himself over and over again. I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for my job. I am thankful that some of my friends who have been unemployed for a very long and rough season are now beginning to find employment. In the midst of everything, good, bad, chaotic, dramatic, losses and gains, God has been there. We have so much to be thankful for.
This song "Come, ye thankful people" takes me back to my childhood. I remember very vividly the congregation of my home church singing this song the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It didn't mean much to me as a child, but now as an adult who has gone through some ups and downs, while having been jaded by life's circumstances; also known as "every day living," I am at a point where I agree with Henry Alford and George Elvey, both of whom penned this great hymn of the church. I hope that you think on how good God has been to us, and don't forget to tell him Thank you!
Come, ye thankful people come,
raise the song of harvest home;
all is safely gathered in ,
ere the winter storms begin.
God our maker doth provide
for our wants to be supplied;
come to God's own temple come,
raise the song of harvest home.
Even so, Lord quickly come,
bring thy final harvest home;
gather thou thy people in,
free from sorrow, free from sin,
there forever purified,
in thy presence to abide;
come with all thine angels come,
raise the glorious harvest home.
Amen.
Peace,
Karsten
